On-board Processing and Isl Networking for Service Provisioning

This paper addresses key mechanisms for service provisioning in non-geostationary satellite constellations employing intersatellite links (ISLs). To this end, several recent research contributions on ISL routing and signaling, and on satellite diversity and handover are summarized and presented in an integrated manner to show their interplay towards end-to-end service provisioning. The focus will here be on the various networking methods and algorithms to implement functions like ISL routing or satellite diversity. On-board processing (OBP) in the constellation network scenario can then mainly be regarded as the set of related functional elements or components, like buffers, switches, routing tables and routing processors.
